18-Year-Old Nabbed After Firing Gun During Attempted Assault In Phillipsburg: Prosecutor

An 18-year-old Phillipsburg man was arrested after firing several gunshots during an attempted assault in the area, authorities announced.

James Goodwine, of Elm Street, was charged with attempted aggravated assault, conspiracy, unlawful possession of a weapon, and possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, all second-degree offenses, Warren County Prosecutor James L. Pfeiffer said in a release on Friday, June 10.

Goodwine is accused of firing the illegally owned gun several times while attempting to assault a resident with others on Ann Street near Allen Alley in Phillipsburg on Monday, June 6, Pfeiffer said.

During the attempted assault, Goodwine endangered the intended victim, as well as several residents, including children who were in the area at the time, authorities said.

Goodwine was taken into custody on Friday, June 10, and was being held in the Warren County Correctional Center pending a detention motion.

Assisting agencies include the Phillipsburg Police Department, the Pohatcong Township Police Department, the Greenwich Township Police Department, the Lopatcong Township Police Department, the New Jersey State Police, the Easton Police Department, and the United States Marshall Service Fugitive Task Force.
